New Author?!

Happy Sunday, readers!

Being a new author has been exciting, scary, and all the emotions at once. Let’s not forget—totally overwhelming. But boy, do I love holding those beautiful books we've created! It's been quite the learning curve. First, there was Amazon, and now it’s Ingram Spark. What are ISBNs? Oh, sure, I’ll buy a hundred of them from Bowker (because I really do think we’ll write and publish that many books). Am I a little crazy? Yes, but sometimes crazy gets things done.

A couple of things that have really helped on this journey are having an amazing partner to share it with. We’ve been friends for so long, and that really helps when it feels like there’s too much on your plate. Oh and according to my husband, “YouTube College” is a real thing, and I’ve been enrolled, learning as much as I can!

Now, our books are available for sale everywhere books are sold online. What’s next? Getting the word out! Letting people know that Hunny & Koko exist. So off to social media I go! It was slow going at first (yes, all of my friends followed us—but are they really into kids' picture books? Short answer? NO!). I kept at it, though, and eventually came across a page called Kid Lit Support. I asked to join and waited patiently—for a whole two hours. They said yes! It's honestly been the most fun. I’m learning from authors like myself, being inspired by their drive, and just enjoying being part of their community.

I 100% recommend joining a group like this if you're a new author. I mean, I was on there for a day, and they inspired me to make BOOKMARKS. And they are absolutely the cutest bookmarks I’ve ever seen.
